Meet the QIAGENers

The spark that lifts others

“Helping others grow and succeed is what drives me. I love sharing what I’ve learned, and watching the team thrive."
Carola Schade, VP, Head of Global Digital PCR

Some people lead with authority. Carola Schade leads with encouragement.

Her journey with QIAGEN began as a PhD student, picking up what was meant to be a short-term side job: writing user manuals and technical notes. But what started as a practical way to blend science with communication quickly sparked something deeper. After completing her doctorate in 1999, Carola stepped fully into QIAGEN and never looked back.

A career shaped by curiosity

From technical marketing to product management, Carola has worn many hats across nearly three decades. And in that time, she’s witnessed QIAGEN’s remarkable transformation, from an ambitious biotech company to a global scientific leader.

“I’ve seen QIAGEN grow, adapt and reinvent itself and I’ve done the same,” Carola reflects.

Today, she serves as VP of Global Digital PCR, bringing together deep scientific insight and business acumen. But what defines her most isn’t just expertise; it’s her generosity with it. She’s become a trusted advisor to many, the kind of leader people seek out when they need clarity, encouragement or simply someone who listens.

Mentorship that moves people forward

Carola believes mentorship isn’t just a formal program; it’s a mindset. Whether through a quick conversation, a shared story or a steady presence during challenges, she sees every interaction as a chance to lift someone up.

She finds deep fulfillment in guiding her team, especially when supporting new colleagues as they settle in. Helping others grow into their roles and find their footing is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work. It is also a reflection of the culture she strives to foster every day.

And her curiosity hasn’t faded. One of the things she loves most about QIAGEN is how the learning never stops.

“When you're in marketing here, you're not boxed in,” she says. “You explore biology, finance, strategy as it’s all connected. That’s what keeps it exciting.”

For Carola, mentorship is more than giving advice. It’s about helping people see what they’re capable of, even before they see it themselves.

Because when you light the way for others, you make mentorship possible.
