For Christopher, excellence isn’t about spotlight moments. It’s found in the small, persistent efforts, like the technical fine-tuning and the thoughtful improvements that make a big difference for the people who use our tools.
When he joined QIAGEN five years ago with a Master’s in Molecular Biology, he was searching for more than just a job. He wanted hands-on experience at the intersection of science and real-world impact. He found it in the dynamic field of digital PCR, and more specifically, in the groundbreaking QIAcuity digital PCR system.
From integration to innovation
Christopher’s journey began in System Integration, where he tested lab automation and worked closely with both software and engineering teams. He started in System Integration, testing lab automation and working closely with software and engineering teams. The role was a deep dive into cross-functional collaboration and a launchpad for something more.
After helping lay the groundwork for QIAcuity’s development, he moved into the Life Science instrument development team and later into lifecycle management following the product’s launch. Each step expanded his scope and brought him closer to the kind of impact he hoped to make when he first stepped into the industry.
Today, Christopher is at the heart of QIAcuity’s evolution. He gathers product feedback, addresses technical challenges and works closely with development partners, suppliers, field teams and customers to refine the platform.
“I enjoy getting to the root of issues,” Christopher explains. “Every resolved problem is one step closer to a more reliable instrument and a better experience for our customers.”
Stretching beyond the science
One of the most rewarding parts of the job? The ability to stretch beyond the original expertise.
Although Christopher came in with a biology background, QIAGEN gave him the space to dive into software and engineering. He now uses these skills daily to solve complex, cross-functional challenges.
“It’s this multidisciplinary growth,” he reflects, “that has shaped me into a more complete scientist.”
Excellence in the everyday
Christopher’s mindset is rooted in curiosity and adaptability. It’s this approach that has helped him grow quickly and expand his skillset far beyond his original training.
It’s also the mindset he encourages in others, especially those transitioning from academia into industry.
“Stay open. Stay curious. You’ll find your way to make an impact.”
This belief fuels his work every day, reminding him that progress isn’t always loud or fast. Sometimes it’s in the quiet, thoughtful improvements that build toward something better.
Because when you pursue progress with purpose, you make excellence possible.
